This is something I really wanted to focus my blog on. Highlighting various entrepreneurs and up and coming persons that can inspire my readers. These people will be found in various articles, websites, or maybe in my neighborhood grocery store. I really wanted to make an impact and talk about those people that are making a difference in the world. For my first ever highlight post, I will be highlighting entrepreneur Shama Kabani.
I ran across Ms. Kabani in a recent post about female entrepreneurs on Forbes.com Take a look at the article: http://www.forbes.com/sites/work-in-progress/2012/06/08/entrepreneurship-is-the-new-womens-movement/2/
The article talked about how women are now leaving their corporate jobs and starting businesses on their own. Forbes’ Contributor, Natalie Macneil, refers to the movement as a “Quiet Revolution”. In the article, Macneil mentions Shama Kabani, an educated young professional who was repeatedly rejected by several corporations because they couldn’t get on the social media train. Ms. Kabani’s company “The Marketing Zen Group” is now worth over millions of dollar and represents clients across the globe. This is a true example of one door closing and another one flying wide open. Ms. Kabani not only started her multi-million dollar company, hosts a web-based TV show, but is also, a best-selling author for her book : The Zen of Social Media Marketing. (You can purchase the book here)
” Shama formed The Marketing Zen Group in 2009. Since then, the company has grown, includes 25 employees and clients that range from publicly held, Fortune 1000 companies to privately held small businesses and non-profit organizations. The company serves clients worldwide, including companies in Europe, Asia and Central and South Americas. Since its start in 2009, average company growth is 400 percent.” (Shama.tv)
With only 25 employees and worth over millions of dollars, Shama is definitely doing something VERY RIGHT! Ms. Kabani holds a Masters’ in Organizational Communication from the University of Texas at Austin. She has received several awards including Top 25 under 25 Entrepreneurs in Business Week and the title “Zen Master of Marketing” by Entrepreneur Magazine.
Shama travels across the world to speak about social media and marketing. She will be speaking at the 2012 NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) Conference on Thursday, June 14 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. She also plans to launch her second edition of The Zen of Social Media Marketing sometime in 2012.
Did I mention she is 25? She inspires me to continue keep pursuing my dreams and goals. Especially considering how I want to incorporate social media marketing into my media production company. I hope she was as an inspiration to you as she is to me. Anyone know of any other powerhouse women in social media?
